Genre: Electro-Hardcore

A relatively unknown side project of Atticus Ross and Brett Gurewitz, Error's sound is brash, dirty, and in-your-face. It's a shame they've only released a five-track EP, but it's a gem at that. A must-hear for industiral listeners looking for something different.

Error is an electro-hardcore band founded in 2003 by 12 Rounds member and Nine Inch Nails collaborator Atticus Ross, and Bad Religion guitarist Brett Gurewitz. [Ross] also recruited Dillinger Escape Plan frontman Greg Puciato to perform vocals on their first release. Since the 2004 release of their self-titled EP, the project has been on hiatus (as they purposedly search for a permanent vocalist).

Marty Party

Genre: Electronic / Dubstep / "Purple"


Here's an artist that's got a different sound with regards to the Electronic/Dubstep scene that a buddy of mine came across lately. Not really my taste, but I'm posting him because his music is different from others within the genre.

MartyParty started producing his own flavor of music in 2005 with the mission to change the monotony of electronic music by creating an entirely different electronic sound: more musical, more story telling, and more diversity in the beats. The result is a growing anthology of MartyParty music crossing over most popular genres into a rich sound he calls Purple.

MartyParty’s live “Purple Opera” is a seamless voyage through an original music collection taking the audience on a the roller coaster ride of emotion and dance.  Intense bass, huge beats, emotional melodies and cutting edge sound design all come together for a wild trip – unique to every performance.

There are no “disks” and he is no “jockey.”  Working without headphones using Ableton Live on a laptop, the ability to mix more than two channels creates an entirely new audio experience for the audience. The live set is a show… a high energy, intense dance party.

The Pillows

Genre: Alternative Rock / Indie Rock / Power Pop

Unless you're a J-Rock fan or have heard their music in the FLCL anime, you probably haven't heard of The Pillows. That is, if you aren't Japanese. Together since 1989, they've got 17 albums under their belt. With good reason, as their Indie Rock sound is solid and varied. Very nice tunes to listen to when you're just hanging around.

The Birthday Massacre

Genre: Rock / New Wave / Synthpop 

The Birthday Massacre successfully blend their style of haunting and melodic synths together with brutal hard-rock riffs. Formed in 1999, the Toronto band has been bringing it's Tim Burton-esque style and sensibilites to a discerning audience for over a decade. From the melancholic and wistful, to the haunting and powerful, their songs evoke a range of moods that captivate the listener unlike most others can.

Joystixx

Genre: "Techno punk 2 electro pop thrash"

Joystixx serve up some of the freshest beats that Sydney, Australia's club scene has to offer. Boasting electro-pop beats that are fresh and infectious, Manek Deboto brings the same innovative song-writing and mixing ability to Joystixx that earned him a cult following as front-man for Dead Inside the Chrysalis. The other half of the duo, Nuke Puke' Em, lends her accompanying vocals that range from rebellious teenage punk rap to the voice projection of a machine through cyberspace.

I guess it's worth noting that while I'm a big fan of theirs, and the name of my blog reflects that, I am not directly affiliated with them. I use the word "mutant" simply to describe those who are different, and who look for something different in the music they listen to.
